Kevin Blankenship, MD
Chairman and Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Blankenship is an urgent care industry veteran with almost twenty years of direct urgent care experience. As Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Dr. Blankenship serves as Chairman of UCG’s Clinical Advisory Board (CAB) and provides overall clinical leadership for the company.
Dr. Blankenship began his urgent care career when he co-founded MedExpress, one of the country’s largest urgent care companies, in 2001. At MedExpress, Kevin served as Chief Operating Officer and was a key member of the leadership team that grew MedExpress from a single center to more than 35 centers in multiple states when he left in 2009. Dr. Blankenship also played a key role in the founding and start-up of MEDcare Urgent Care and most recently served as the President of MEDcare prior to its becoming part of the Urgent Care Group Network of Centers. As part of the acquisition, Dr. Blankenship joined the Board of Directors of UCG.
Dr. Blankenship earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and Medical Degree (MD) from West Virginia University School of Medicine and went on to complete his emergency medicine residency at West Virginia University. He became board certified in emergency medicine and worked in numerous medical settings throughout West Virginia.
In addition, Kevin founded and currently serves as Medical Director of Jacob’s Ladder, a residential substance abuse treatment program for men that is featured in the Netflix documentary Recovery Boys.
